NZ Custom Shade is a trading name of Foundry56 Ltd, a New Zealand-registered business. We operate the website nzcustomshade.co.nz and supply made-to-measure outdoor shade products to customers across New Zealand.

We’re committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information responsibly, in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand). This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use and protect it.

2. Information We Collect

When you visit our website or place an order, we may collect:

  • Personal information: your name, email address, phone number, and delivery address, provided when you place an order or contact us.
  • Order details: the products ordered, measurements you submit through our product configurator, colour selections, and any other specifications required to make your shade product.
  • Payment information: we do not store your full card details. Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Please refer to Stripe’s privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy for information on how they handle your payment data.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, and usage data collected automatically through cookies and analytics tools when you browse the site.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your data is used to:

  • Process your order — including manufacturing your shade product to the measurements and specifications you provide, and arranging delivery to your address.
  • Communicate with you about your order, from confirmation through production, dispatch, and post-delivery follow-up.
  • Respond to enquiries and provide before- and after-sale support.
  • Improve our website and understand how customers use it, using anonymised analytics data.
  • Send you promotional communications, where you have given your consent. You can withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time. Essential service communications will continue regardless of your marketing preferences.

4. Data Protection & Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, disclosure, or misuse. The website uses HTTPS encryption for all data transmission.

Payment details are processed entirely through Stripe’s secure infrastructure and are not stored on our servers. Order data is stored within our WooCommerce platform and is accessible only to authorised personnel.

5. Sharing Your Data

We don’t sell or rent your personal data to third parties. We may share it in the following circumstances:

  • With Stripe, to process your payment.
  • With our courier and delivery partners, to arrange delivery of your order. Only the information necessary to complete delivery (name, delivery address, contact number) is shared.
  • With email service providers used to send order and customer communications.
  • With Google Analytics, in anonymised and aggregated form, to understand website usage.
  • With legal authorities or regulatory bodies, where required by law.

We do not share your personal information with any other third parties without your consent.

6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working and to understand how it is used.

  • Essential cookies: required for site functionality, including the WooCommerce shopping cart and checkout. These cannot be disabled without breaking core site features.
  • Analytics cookies: we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — pages visited, time spent, referral sources. This data is anonymised and does not identify individual users.
  • Marketing cookies: only set with your prior consent, if used for advertising or remarketing.

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep your personal information for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, including:

  • Order records and associated personal data: retained for a minimum of 7 years to meet NZ tax and financial record-keeping obligations under the Tax Administration Act 1994.
  • Measurement and specification data: retained for at least 24 months from delivery, in line with the product warranty period, in case of defect claims.
  • Marketing consent records: kept for as long as you remain subscribed, and for a reasonable period after unsubscribing.

After the relevant retention period, your data will be securely deleted or anonymised.

8. Your Rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

  • Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct personal information that is inaccurate or out of date.
  • Ask us to delete your personal information, subject to our legal retention obligations.
  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time, without affecting your ability to place orders or receive essential service communications.
  • Make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe we have not handled your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020.
